The Munkbosbeek meanders through the hilly landscape of the Zwalm region and visits several picturesque villages including Dikkele. The valley and the brook are named after the Munkbos or Monnikenbos, once the hideout of the infamous gang leader Jan De Lichte. When you explore the valley in the spring, you will discover a colourful palette of plants and flowers. You will discover, among other things, wood anemones and primroses. So put on your walking shoes and explore the valley via one of Natuurpunt’s signposted routes. You can choose from the red route along paved roads or the blue walking route. The latter is highly recommended for lovers of unpaved roads.
